Creating content for your nutrition business can feel overwhelming, right? You know it’s important, but content creation often falls to the bottom of the to-do list. And when you finally do sit down to create something… BAM! You hit a roadblock – no time, no ideas, or that sneaky imposter syndrome starts creeping in.
Trust me, I get it. But here’s the good news: these roadblocks don’t have to stop you. In this post, I’m tackling the biggest content struggles nutrition business owners face and how to break through them – so you can create content with more ease, confidence, and consistency. Let’s tackle them together!
“I don’t have time”
The most common complaint, and I hear you! If you feel like there’s never enough time to create content, you’re really not alone! The key isn’t finding more time (because let’s be real, that’s not happening), but using the time you do have more effectively. Here’s how to make content creation fit into your busy schedule without feeling like an overwhelming chore.
1. Task batch: this is, without a doubt, one of my favourite productivity hacks. Start by setting an hour aside each week to plan out your monthly content. Then schedule in blocks of time for each individual task, e.g. social media caption writing, filming videos, writing blog posts, and scheduling.
2. Get organised: if you have a system for your content creation process, it will save you time procrastinating. Blocking time as suggested above will help, but having the right tools e.g. a good planner (I use Airtable), will make all the world of difference too.
3. Delegate tasks: hire a VA to help you out with the tasks that don’t require your expertise but do take up your precious time, e.g. creating social media templates, scheduling social media content, and uploading blog posts.
“I don’t know what to write about”
Staring at a blank screen, wondering what to post? We’ve all been there. The good news? You’re never actually out of ideas—you just need a system to capture, organise, and repurpose them. Whether you’re feeling uninspired or struggling to come up with fresh topics, these strategies will help you keep your content flowing effortlessly.
1. Create a bank of content ideas using AI: Chat GPT is great for brainstorming ideas (and even helping you write content with the right prompts!). Every quarter, create a list of ideas so that you’re not constantly needing to feel inspired.
2. Use key awareness dates: share helpful tips about key dates that may be of interest to your audience, e.g. Heart Month, Diabetes Awareness Week
3. Repurpose & recycle: repurpose long-form content into social media posts and recycle content 3-6 months after it’s published. You do not need new content ALL THE TIME!
“I don’t know how to start”
Sometimes, the hardest part of content creation is simply getting started. Maybe you have ideas, but the process feels messy or overwhelming. Without a clear workflow, it’s easy to get stuck in the cycle of overthinking and procrastination. The solution? Structure. By breaking things down into simple steps and creating a repeatable system, you’ll gain the clarity and confidence to produce content with ease.
1. Have a clear workflow: knowing the process from A to B is essential to getting anything done and finding clarity. For a blog post, this could be research blog topic > write blog post> optimise blog post > upload and schedule.
2. Break into smaller tasks: list out the individual steps for each part of the process to help things feel more manageable. Then trust the process – as you complete each step, you will move from A to B (just like a domino effect!)
3. Use a task management tool: add each individual step to a task management tool with a deadline and delegate (if you have a VA or team)
Bonus tip: If you use a task management tool, you can set recurring tasks for those that need to be done every week or month, which will save you heaps of time. Just set them up once and you’re good to go!!
“I’m worried about what people will think of me”
Ah, imposter syndrome – the sneaky little voice that tells you your content isn’t good enough. Whether you’re worried about being judged, making mistakes, or not sounding “expert” enough, know this: your audience needs to hear from you. The more you share your knowledge and perspective, the more you’ll build trust with the people who need your help. Let’s shift your mindset and tackle those confidence blocks head-on.
1. Embrace your unique voice & journey: you bring a different perspective to your content with a combination of your expertise and personal experiences and insights. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on how your story and approach resonate with your audience.
2. Reframe negative thoughts: instead of thinking, “I’m not good enough to share this,” reframe it as “I have valuable insights that can help people.” Whenever self-doubt arises, consciously challenge those thoughts and replace them with positive affirmations about your abilities and the knowledge you have gained.
3. Celebrate small wins: acknowledge each piece of content you create as a success, no matter how small it seems. Whether it’s writing your first blog post or getting your first positive comment on socials, celebrating progress, no matter how small, helps reinforce the idea that you’re capable and making an impact.
“I‘m fed up as no one is engaging with my content”
Spending hours creating content only to get little to no engagement? It can feel frustrating and disheartening, and make you wonder if it’s even worth the effort. But here’s the truth—content isn’t just about going viral; it’s about building connections over time. If engagement is low, it doesn’t mean your content isn’t valuable—it just means you need to tweak your strategy. Here’s how to turn things around:
1. Create conversation-starters: Instead of just sharing information, invite your audience to engage. Ask questions, run polls, use “this or that” style posts, or share relatable moments that encourage people to comment. The easier it is to respond, the more engagement you’ll get!
2. Make it easy to interact: keep your captions clear and direct with a strong call-to-action (CTA). Instead of a vague “Let me know your thoughts,” try something specific like, “Drop an emoji if you agree” or “Tell me your biggest struggle with [topic] in the comments.” The simpler the action, the more likely people are to engage.
3. Engage first: engagement is a two-way street! Spend 10-15 minutes before and after posting engaging with your audience – replying to comments, responding to DMs, and commenting on other accounts in your niche. The more you engage, the more engagement you’ll attract.
